Our first priority when you come in is to relieve your discomfort. After you feel more at ease, we will assess the situation and then discuss treatment options so you can make an informed decision about what comes next.
Every emergency situation is unique. Your dentist in Hagerstown, Dr. Storch will evaluate your smile to determine the most appropriate solution for your toothache or broken tooth. After we create a care plan, our treatment coordinators will also explain the breakdown of any insurance benefits you have, including payment arrangements. We want to do everything we can to ensure you can access quality treatment in a timely manner.
Same-day appointments are available only if our schedule permits, otherwise, we will see you within 3 business days.
Dental emergencies can come in many shapes and sizes. However, the following are some of the most frequent concerns we see in our office:
A painful toothache can make it difficult to eat and even go to work. We will perform a quick exam and take a small X-ray to determine the cause of your pain so we can quickly attend to the issue.
An abscess can be very painful. Other times, they may not hurt at all. If not treated promptly, dental abscesses could spread into the face and cause serious swelling.
Fractured teeth must be treated immediately to minimize the risk of permanent damage or tooth loss. Ideally, our emergency dentist in Hagerstown should see you within the first two hours of your injury. Keep the broken tooth portion in a sealed container and cover it with milk, saline or contact solution. It is important not to touch or scrub the root of the tooth if the entire structure falls out. This can cause damage to the microscopic fibers which aid in reattachment.
Old fillings or a crown may fall out if there is a new cavity around the restoration. You should not try to fix the issue by yourself as bacteria can get trapped underneath. Do not chew on the affected side of your mouth. Instead, schedule an appointment with us as soon as possible.
This issue could be due to an infection, gum disease or trauma. Head to an emergency room if the bleeding or inflammation is severe and cannot be controlled. Otherwise, call our Hagerstown dentist.
